EVERYONE has had one of those nights where you just can't seem to get to sleep.

Maybe you've had a bad day, bad news or suffer with insomnia. But we all know that feeling of tossing and turning in our beds praying that counting sheep or diffusing the right essential oil might work this time.

Living in a world with constant distractions makes us forget how important a good night's sleep is.

We all think we can go without it and just drink more coffee and scroll through our phones to continue distracting ourselves, when in reality, we are denying our bodies of one of its essential needs.

Taking time in your night to slow down helps ensure you are refreshed.

It has taken me a long time to learn the importance of letting your brain shut down properly each night, and how it can impact you if you don't.

My entire life it has taken me over an hour to fall asleep every night, and I don't have the magical cure for night owl disease.

But I do know that allowing your brain to take a rest is a good first step.
