NOOSA Mayor Tony Wellington says the proposed tourist levy on Air BnB holiday houses is about achieving equity for hotel owners who already pay the levy.

Doesn't Noosa Council get it? This shouldn't be about legitimising yet another revenue stream for council. This is about local residents unable to live in their own homes due to the relentless noise generated by thoughtless air BnB holiday-makers partying next door.

All-day and late-night boozy parties, bins left out on the road, cars parked haphazardly etc ... if this trend continues how do residents get enough sleep to get to work, their children to school.

I call for a complete ban on all forms of holiday rentals in residential zones unless the "business" is a hotel, motel or a resort with on-site management. That's proper town planning.

I do believe, however, that over the busiest holiday periods when hotels are at full capacity, ratepayers should be allowed to temporarily holiday let their house for up to six weeks per year in order to help pay their rates bills etc, but with strict boundaries - any complaints of noise and you lose your privilege to temporarily holiday let.

That's fair to everyone.

Never forget, houses are for living in, they are not private hotels or resorts.
