UNLIKE Michael Henderson ('Runway disaster?', Daily, April 3), the vast majority of Sunshine Coast residents have welcomed the new runway at the Sunshine Coast Airport.
We will most surely become a sought-after international tourist destination for hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, thereby producing thousands of employment opportunities in the wider community for skilled and most importantly, for unskilled workers.
Obviously hundreds of jobs are being created during the construction stage, jobs that would not have been realised on the Coast.
The expanded airport will also benefit the Coast residents by enticing more dining, retail, accommodation and sporting facilities to our region.
Additionally the State Government will have little option other than to quickly address the carrying capacity of many Sunshine Coast secondary roads by committing to an improved local roads network.
The expanded airport can only bring additional prosperity to our region.
