WE AUSTRALIANS are the worst in the world for road rage incidents.

We should be ashamed of this reputation and the government needs to do something about it as people are dying.

What is causing this stupidity?

A recent study found the reasons that made our blood boil were speeding, tailgating, lane hopping, failing to indicate and not giving a courtesy wave to drivers that do a small favour.

None of these are a reason for violence.

We have bulky men striking women, others using steel bars in their attacks on unarmed fellow motorists, even ramming offending motorists is not uncommon.

Foul language and rude hand signs are common.

There isn't a motorist on the road that hasn't, at some time, made a silly driving error.

Male drivers are the main culprit for violence but female drivers are getting angrier behind the wheel too.

Enough is enough.

The government must step in now and, regardless of excuses, make a mandatory five-year, non-parole sentence period for road rage attacks.

If the action results in severe injury or death, longer sentences should apply.

Let's stop talking and start doing something about this senseless crime.
