Screams of pain as woman trapped in car on busy Coast road

UPDATE: 1.10PM:

A WITNESS to a two-vehicle crash on a busy Maroochydore road said she heard a "big bang of metal on metal" and rushed outside her store to help.

Beefy's Maroochydore employee Georgina Bazzica was loading items into a cabinet when she saw the crash unfold through the window.

She called triple-0 straight away.

"I saw the lady was trying to go across the road and the younger driver t-boned her," Ms Bazzica said.

"I heard the metal on metal. And saw that she was hurt and going in and out of consciousness." 

Multiple emergency services worked with hydraulic gear for about 15 minutes before the woman was cut free.

Screams of pain were heard from the street as they attempted to free her.

Paramedic Nick Haug said the woman, aged in her 60s, was taken to hospital with moderate injuries and in a stable condition.

"She had some pre-existing orthopaedic injuries which complicated things," Mr Haug said.

"She was complaining of limb and chest pain but was stable.

"The other driver was unhurt but (was) advised to seek medical attention."

Ms Bazzica said she had been waiting to witness a crash on that particular intersection.

"We see so many near misses, and people honking their horns, but nothing like this," she said.

"I never cross at that intersection."

Maroochydore Fire Station station officer Shane Pasterfield said it took about 15 minutes to free the woman using the jaws of life.

Mr Pasterfield said the new model of vehicle made a slightly difficult extraction.

"The new car constructions are quite tough to get into. It requires different techniques that take a bit longer," Mr Pasterfield said.

"But the new cars help assist with causality protection."

CRIES of pain could be heard from the street as firefighters cut off a car door to free a woman from the wreckage after a two-car crash at Maroochydore.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said crews were called to the junction of Aerodrome Rd and Wrigley St at 11.57am.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the woman from the driver's seat and she was treated at the scene for "moderate" injuries to her legs. It's understood the woman was trapped for about half an hour.

She has since been taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment and is reportedly in a stable condition.

Police have blocked one lane of Aerodrome Rd, with traffic flowing slowly on the other.
