Ocean Street security guard, bar worker allegedly assaulted after three men escorted from bar

A Maroochydore police sergeant has issued a sobering message after three men allegedly assaulted an Ocean Street security guard and venue worker, leaving one with a broken nose.

A security guard and bar worker suffered head and facial injuries after they were allegedly assaulted by three men who were kicked out of an Ocean Street venue.

Emergency services were called to the Maroochydore night-life precinct around 12.40am Friday with reports of the alleged assault.

A Queensland Police spokesman said three men were being escorted out of a bar when they allegedly assaulted the security guard and another employee.

He said one of the victims suffered a badly broken nose and a large laceration to the back of their head.

He was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.

Maroochydore Police duty sergeant Grant Wilcox said it was unacceptable behaviour and security guards had a right to feel safe at work.

He said there were increased police patrols at the safe night out precinct on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights but the assault was unusual for a weeknight.

“I think they have to grow up,” he said.

“Obviously when you’re refusing entry to some people they’re already identified as people who can’t enter a premises due to behaviour or otherwise.”

The three men fled the scene when police arrived.

Officers are continuing to look for them.

It was believed one was aged in his 40s, another in his 20s and the third was 18-years-old.

“Most of the time people are well behaved, this is showing that the venues are safe but in the outside areas you still have this stupidity,” sergeant Wilcox said.

Investigations are continuing.
