A young Moreton Bay region man who took part in a brutal bashing of two Sunshine Coast Uber drivers has been given his punishment in court.
Noah Jayk Vincent Blevins, of Kallangur, was sentenced to 10 months’ probation in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 14, 2022, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company on Ocean Street, Maroochydore.
CCTV footage captured Blevins, now 21, bashing the two Uber drivers at the Big Top Shopping Centre car park about 1.40am on November 20, 2021.
Police prosecutor Mick Ruddiman said Blevins did not instigate the fight but did become involved in the “silly” assault.
Sergeant Ruddiman said one of Blevins’ co-accused that had already been sentenced to 12 months’ probation had more involvement in the assault.
Defence solicitor Matthew Cooper said his client was highly intoxicated at the time and had been drinking alcohol most days.
“However, since the incident he has reduced his alcohol consumption,” Mr Cooper said.
Mr Cooper told the court Blevins withdrew from the fight before it ended.
“It occurred in circumstances where his friends was involved in a physical altercation that he got involved in,” he said.
Mr Cooper said Blevins did not have any criminal history and had an upbringing that was “far from lavish”.
“He was given the necessities when required but his parents both suffered from mental health conditions and back injuries,” he said.
The court heard Blevins was employed full time at Disaster Restorations Australia rebuilding and repairing homes that were affected by the floods.
Mr Cooper said Blevins had put other career opportunities on hold while the court matter was being dealt with and had a supportive family who were present in the public gallery during his sentencing.
Magistrate Barry Barrett ordered Blevins pay $341 restitution to the first victim and $1859 restitution to the second victim.
He was also required to complete 40 hours of community service.
No convictions were recorded.
