TWELVE new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Queensland overnight, but only three on the Sunshine Coast in the past week.

No new Coast cases were recorded overnight and just one in the past three days with the region's total remaining at 87.

Of those, 60 people have recovered, providing a further glimmer of hope.

Signs of the coronavirus pandemic plateauing appear accurate however social distancing measures will remain in place for some time.

Queensland Health said contact tracing was under way for the new cases and the department would notify the community if any other public health alerts were required.

"The majority of cases are from patients who have travelled overseas, or have had direct contact with a confirmed case who had travelled overseas," Queensland Health say.

"The number of confirmed cases we see each day is expected to vary as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 situation across the state.

"We want everyone to know they can play their part to protect themselves and the more vulnerable in our community. Please follow the recommended advice from us and our federal counterparts in regards to social distancing, public gatherings and general wellbeing."
