BEERWAH shoppers could soon have a new option with plans for a major supermarket, service station and fast food outlets lodged with Sunshine Coast Council.

Coles Group Property Developments submitted the plans labelled Beerwah Homemaker Centre.

The proposal includes two development permits for a 3768sq m Coles site, a 600sq m showroom and two fast food outlets on the corner of Steve Irwin Way and Roys Rd.

The complex is expected to create 180 jobs, 150 being through the supermarket with an additional 40 indirect jobs.

The proposal said the supermarket and showrooms would contribute to the fast growing suburb.

The Coles centre would rival Woolworths and Aldi in Beerwah and if accepted will open in 2021.

"The nearest Coles supermarket is currently located at Sippy Downs and this proposed supermarket is anticipated to capture 30 per cent of available expenditure within the area," the plans read.

"The introduction of the Coles supermarket will significantly reduce the travel times of shoppers and significantly enhance convenience."
