New leaders focus on surfing club’s youth drive

A Sunshine Coast boardriders club president is excited about the future as he hands over leadership to a new team of dedicated surfers.

MUDJIMBA Beach Boardriders president Crys-kai Carroll is excited about the club's future as he hands over leadership to a new team of dedicated surfers.

Established in 1986, the club has provided its members with a stable foundation in the coastal surfing community.

New club president Tony Paris, who has previously stood as president and vice president, said the club's core values would remain.

"We want to give everyone the opportunity to better their surfing skills," he said.

"But we are going to be really focused on junior development because that is the future of the club."

The new committee also includes vice president Rob Embery, secretary Shannon Embery and treasurer Ang Dillion.

Mr Carroll said the group of Mudjimba locals would be a positive change for the club.

"I think it's important that you keep that excitement going in the club and it's really good to see people running the club being 100 per cent committed and feeling really excited about everything which is something I started to wane a little bit," he said.

"Together they will be amazing for the club and I'm excited it was them taking over, I have peace of mind that the club is in good hands.

"Tony was the past president a couple years ago and he has been surfing with the club for 20 something years so he is very well respected and the kids look up to him and he is an incredible surfer and that is something that is really good for the club to have someone that is committed."

Mr Carroll said stepping back from the president role would allow him to relax but he was still dedicated to helping where he could.

"I'm still involved and one big thing is we really want a club house, Coolum has a club house Maroochydore now has a room, Caloundra has been awarded a club house and it's something that I have been trying to do and something I will continue to do," he said.
