A new housing project pitched for Nambour's outskirts is set for a shake-up, with a proposed swim school to make way for a small-scale shopping centre.

The change to the application was lodged with Sunshine Coast Council late last week by Lee Development Planning, on behalf of Australian National Homes, directed by Tosh Murphy.

The initial proposal put to council for assessment was for seven residences, a swim school and playground and food and drink outlet on the corner of Image Flat Rd and Imagination Dr, Nambour.

The tweaks to the application lodged last week signalled the intention to instead introduce a small 463sq m shopping centre instead of the swim school and playground previously proposed for the northeastern corner of the site.

The low-rise development was also set to include a home office element to be formalised in the proposed duplexes, to align with changing work environments evolving this year.

The swim school had been set to cater to up to eight swimming students in the pool at a time.

A childcare centre which could cater to up to 88 children was already nearing completion in August, as part of a previous approval.

The food and drink outlet had been proposed to service parents at pick-up and drop-off times.

The new shopping centre proposal was to be made up of three retail tenancies, with operating hours for the shops and the food and drink outlet of 6am-10pm.

The application was considered code-assessable in the planning report submitted.
