New business gives Palmwoods a burst of colour

THE resin craze has hit Palmwoods with Resin Republic opening its doors.

Located on Main St the store is filled with usable resin masterpieces.

Owner and artist Karen Lazare started experimenting with resin six months ago and fell in love with its unpredictable nature.

“I love the excitement about what you’re going to make and what it’s going to look like because when you pour paint it’s completely different every time. There are no two the same,” she said

From unique clocks to one-off cheese boards, Mrs Lazare makes it all.

“I make clocks, platters, serving trays, lazy susans, side tables, anything that I can include resin in the process,” she said.

“Everything that I make comes from Queensland and the shop donates 10 per cent of all sales to drought relief.”

The mother of five said the venture was something she could do for herself.

“Now is my time to do something that I’ve really enjoyed doing and I couldn’t keep everything at home, there was too many platters, so I had to do something, and a shop seemed like a bit of fun,” she said.

“It’s really nice to hang out and make people happy when they come in to buy something.”

The community minded artist said she had Palmwoods’ best interests at heart.

“I would love for Palmwoods to be a creative hub and just have great food and great artists here. That would be awesome for this little town,” she said.

“I’m not expensive. Nothing in the shop that I’ve created is over $100 and I’m open to lay-bys, making things affordable and making donations to charities.”

Mrs Lazare said the business has started with a bang since launching in December.

“Any of the work I had done went very quickly so I’ve been madly making more,” she said.

Resin Republic is open from Wednesday through to Sunday and workshops will be offered for children and adults at the end of January.
