Plans to build an apartment complex in order to provide NDIS housing just a 10-minute walk from the beach have been pitched to council.
Murray and Associates lodged the application to Sunshine Coast Council on behalf of CA 17 Saltair Pty Ltd to build a residential care facility at 17 Saltair Street, Kings Beach.
Documents state the apartment complex would contribute positively to the high-density residential character of the neighbourhood as well as “much-needed” NDIS housing for the Sunshine Coast community.
A residential care facility has been defined as accommodation with supervision and support for residents who need regular nursing or care.
The 761sq m site is currently vacant and is located in a high density residential zone, with surrounding buildings being of similar density.
The plans include 15 two-bedroom units and two one-bedroom units designated to staff for onsite overnight assistance.
The development stretches five floors high – including a ground floor – with the top three floors housing four units each and the first floor providing five units.
The ground floor provides storage space, a lobby and other necessary facilities, documents show.
It is intended the building will reach 16.8m in height, calculating to 3.2m below the zone’s maximum height limit.
Documents state excluding the two units designated to staff and unit one, all apartments will come with a 8.8sq m balcony terrace
The first unit will have a balcony terrace spanning 10.1sq m and the staff units span 6.7sq m.
The application also requests council approval for operational works to complete the project.
