Mourners to gather in candlelit vigil for Jacob Mabb

A CANDLELIT vigil will be held to honour the memory of popular 21-year-old rugby union player Jacob Mabb.

Teammates, opponents and others within the rugby union community are expected to gather at the University of the Sunshine Coast's rugby grounds in Sippy Downs at 6pm today for the vigil.

Jacob died in hospital on Monday afternoon after being flown to Brisbane from Bali in an induced coma.

He had been in a critical condition after a motorbike crash on the way back from Uluwatu last Sunday.

Jacob's organ donations have saved three lives so far.

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union has advised all clubs there will be a candlelight vigil for the young man this evening.

Those attending have been asked to wear their club jerseys or polo shirts and if possible to alter the playing number to read 13.

Sunshine Coast Rugby Union general manager Luke Wyatt said there was a "lot of passion" for Jacob and his family within the rugby community and that had only grown when people learnt of his organ donations saving the lives of others.

The organisation has about 3500 members, including juniors and seniors, and it was understood tonight's vigil would be attended my many mourners.

Jacob's father, Steve, paid tribute to his son yesterday, telling the Daily Jacob had been "passionate" about organ donation and helping others.

"He was a ratbag, don't get me wrong, at times, but underneath it there was this real respect for others," Steve said.

"He would go out of his way for others."
