Two Brisbane motorcycle riders jumped into action after arriving at the scene of a ute rollover on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Recreational motorcycle riders Jesse William and Billy Parker were out on a ride when they arrived at the scene of a single vehicle rollover, involving a Toyota Hilux ute at Beerburrum-Woodford Rd, Beerburrum, at around 11.30am yesterday.
After asking an injured passenger if he was “all good?” and hearing that the driver was still in the vehicle, the duo pulled over and jumped into action to assist.
William described the scene of the rollover as “distressing”.
“I heard a guy say that the driver was still in the car, so that got me a bit worried,” he said.
“So we pulled over and went back to the car on its side and she was there on her side in the vehicle.
“It was quite distressing, I just knew that we had to help her out.”
After pulling out the smashed windscreen, the first responders were able to get the driver out of the vehicle, where she was treated by passer-byers with first aid kits, before emergency services arrived.
William added the incident highlighted the importance of first aid training.
“It was definitely a big scene, it goes to show that there are definitely lessons to be learned,” he added.
“I couldn’t just stand there, so we just jumped into it and got it done, but we could have been better prepared.
“First aid training is really important and it is definitely a smart idea to bring a first aid kit with you in rural areas.”
Emergency services arrived at the scene of the crash at 11.50am.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews attended the scene and there were no entrapments on arrival.
“We had two crews there assisting to make the scene safe,” the spokeswoman said.
A spokeswoman for the Queensland Police Service said the Forensic Crash Unit were investigating.
“Initial investigations indicate just before 12pm, a Toyota Hilux utility was travelling west along Beerburrum Woodford Road when it lost control in loose dirt and rolled,” the spokeswoman said.
“The driver, an 18-year-old Pacific Pines woman, was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Two passengers, an 18-year-old Oxenford man and a 17-year-old Oxenford boy, were also transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Police would like to thank members of the public who stopped and rendered assistance until emergency services arrived at the scene.”
