The Sunshine Coast will host one of its three metropolitan racing cards this weekend with the running of the Mooloolaba Cup at Corbould Park.
While experienced trainer David Vandyke doesn’t have a runner in the main event, he is excited to see how his three-year-old gelding Noble Decree performs in The Dock Mooloolaba Quality (1400m).
“He’s a very exciting horse that was quite an expensive purchase from New Zealand a couple of years ago,“ he said.
“He’s only lightly raced with one start which was a second and I think he’ll appreciate running on his home track.
“He should run well.”
Leading Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick has seven nominated runners across the 10-race card.
“Menazzi will run in the Mooloolaba Cup who is a very consistent runner,” Kendrick said.
“He ran about six placings in a row and is a bit rough in the market but I think he’s running against similar horses to last start where he finished okay, just didn’t handle the quick back up.
“He worked really well on Tuesday so I think he’ll run well and I’m looking forward to it.”
The 11-time Sunshine Coast premiership winning trainer said he was also keen to see how Can’t Recall One, Redford and Luva Flutta performed.
“We’ve got a nice team of horses resuming, one includes Can’t Recall One who ran over the Winter carnival in the Sires Produce Stakes and the JJ Atkins,” Kendrick said.
“He’s a nice promising young horse.
“Redford has won four from five now, he was strong at Brisbane last start and will be right in the market so hopefully he’s one that can bounce out of this and head towards some nice races over the carnival.
“Luva Flutta, another that won really well last start and if he can win again he might sneak into the Magic Millions.”
