A Sunshine Coast music teacher has been charged following an investigation into alleged historic sex assault offences from another school.
Nicholas John Campbell was granted bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court late Wednesday afternoon following his arrest on a NSW arrest warrant.
In a statement, a NSW Police spokesman said officers started an investigation following reports a student was allegedly sexually and indecently assaulted during incidents at Coffs Harbour and Grafton in the 1990s.
Following an extensive investigation, officers from the Queensland Police Service and Coffs and Clarence Police District conducted a search warrant at a home on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.
Several items were found and seized during the search. Campbell was arrested at the property on a NSW arrest warrant.
The 53-year-old, who was a music teacher at Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim, was released on bail and given a future court attendance notice on two counts of aggravated indecent assault and one of aggravated sexual assault.
He will appear in Grafton Local Court on April 14.
A Matthew Flinders Anglican College spokeswoman said the school took all allegations pertaining to staff members seriously.
“We are co-operating with authorities and following our college policies,” the spokeswoman said.
“The staff member has been stood down, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
“As this is a matter before the courts, we are unable to provide further comment.
“Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and community.”
