Police launched a massive hunt on the Sunshine Coast last night after a Warana man was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a large screwdriver.
Inspector Tony Lewis said the drama unfolded in a home in Harvard Court, Sippy Downs about 8.30pm when a row broke out between two men.
Thedaily.com.au understands the offender stabbed a 43-year-old man in the neck and face with a foot-long screwdriver before fleeing the area.
The victim, who was in a serious condition, was rushed to Nambour Hospital by ambulance, escorted by police, at speeds of about 140km/h.
About a dozen police units from across the Coast swarmed on the estate setting up a 1km cordon around the scene of the stabbing. The dog squad was brought into to sweep the area.
Police also carried out checks of cars and doing searches of nearby University of the Sunshine Coast campus.
Insp. Lewis would not confirm the man had just been released from prison but said he was known to police and considered dangerous.
“Nobody should approach him. If they see him they should immediately phone police,’’ he said.
“From what we have observed at the scene, this man is violent.’’
Insp. Lewis confirmed there were other people in the home at the time of the attack but could not say if children were present. “Police are interviewing a number of witnesses.’’
The victim, from Nicklin Way, Warana, was reported to be in a critical, but stable condition.
Early this morning, police reported a man from Harvard Court, Sippy Downs had been arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm and unlawful wounding. Police are expected to strongly oppose any application for bail.
