A man has been found dead in the early hours of Thursday morning at a public beach access in Mooloolaba.

A police media spokeswoman said officers were called to the scene about 6am at Mooloolaba Beach near Parkyn Parade.

Officers located the body of a deceased male in a camping tent on the sand dunes near Beach Access 180, less than 50m from the lifeguard tower at Mooloolaba Beach near the popular Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club.

Senior detectives said the man’s body was believed to have been there about five days and was found by a lifeguard who called it in.

The man was understood to be aged in his 60s.

The spokeswoman said police conducted an investigation at the scene and the death was being treated as non-suspicious.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a crew was also called just after 6am but there was no transport required.
