In the final days of Wurtulla resident Simone Boulton’s life, she was sitting with her daughter in bed as moonlight streamed into the room.
Maya Boulton, 11, was playing with the rose quartz bracelet her mum was wearing.
Mrs Boulton, 46, delivered her daughter a powerful message about the afterlife.
“Just so you know darling I’ll always hear you even with my eyes shut,” she said.
One of Mrs Boulton’s best friends, Emily Glasson, captured the precious moment on her phone.
About 10 days later, as her husband Adam Boulton held her hand, Mrs Boulton died on the evening of May 17 after a six-year cancer battle.
She was surrounded by many family and friends in the lead-up to her passing.
Ms Glasson said her friend was determined to have a final Mother’s Day with her daughters Maya and Remi, 8.
She said she would miss her friend’s hugs the most.
“She never whinged, she was a fighter, she was so stoic, she just really wanted to be here,” Ms Glasson said.
“She was here to make a difference.”
Mrs Boulton’s family moved to the Sunshine Coast when she was young.
She and Ms Glasson met when they were in Year 1 in Stella Maris Catholic School in Maroochydore.
Mrs Boulton graduated from Immanuel Lutheran College in 1994.
She worked with her dad, Ian “Buschie” Busch, at his business Maroochydore News at the Big Top Shopping Centre for many years and was also a flight attendant for about a decade.
In 2017, aged 40, Mrs Boulton was diagnosed with a tumour in her adrenal gland that had spread to organs including her kidney and liver.
Friends started a GoFundMe for Mrs Boulton last year as she continued her fight, and Adam will now use the money to take some time off to grieve and look after the girls.
“Adam’s an amazing father, and he looked after Simone all the way until the end,” Ms Glasson said.
Ms Glasson said her “sunshine Simone” had “lit the way” for everyone.
“She’ll be forever young in our hearts,” she said.
Mrs Boulton’s funeral is at 10am Wednesday, May 24, at Gregson and Weight in Buderim.
