A packed congregation has farewelled a popular 17-year-old Sunshine Coast teen who was killed in a horror double fatal crash earlier this month.

In the early hours of Saturday, September 14, 32-year-old Trent Donovan rode his motorcycle through a red light in Nirimba on the Sunshine Coast.

He collided with the Toyota Corolla of 17-year-old Broc Dawson. They both died at the scene.

Jet Dennien, 16, a passenger in the Corolla, was rushed to hospital.

Mourners walked in to the Caloundra Gregson and Weight funeral home on Thursday to the strains of Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah and Memories by Maroon 5 playing on the live stream.

He said Broc was one of the hardest workers he knew who was also a bit of a ladies’ man.

“Broc always had a way with words and seemed to be able to get us out of anything,” he said.

“Usually it was him getting us out of the situations he put us into.”

He said the pair was part of each other’s families.

Broc’s mum, Krystn, told the gathering she hoped people would remember all the good that he did in his life.

“I know Broc is looking down on every single one of you here today and I know he’d want you to remember the good times,” she said.

Civil celebrant Adam Straney led the service.

“Everything about today is s---house,” he said.

“Today’s not right, it’s not fair that we have to farewell someone so young.”

He said Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton would be the saddest song the congregation would hear because the family was determined to celebrate the 17-year-old’s life.

Broc was born in Ipswich before moving around with his family and then settling on the Sunshine Coast.

His first flight was at 14 years old and he gained his private pilot’s licence at 15.

Mr Straney said Broc was also a talented musician also taught himself to play an instrument.

“He made coin on the side by playing guitar,” the civil celebrant said.

The congregation was told he was a smart boy who also loved mountain biking but was most passionate about flying, friends and females.

“And not necessarily in that order,” Mr Straney said.

The civil celebrant said he would be remembered for his amazing smile, his kindness, as the life of the party and someone who was there for everyone else.

Family, teachers and friends shared memories.

One of the speakers said a man’s worth was measured by his number of friends and acknowledged the sea of young faces before him.

The gathering was told of a younger brother who wanted to do everything with his siblings.

“We would give anything for you to annoy us just one more time,” a loved one said.

“We love you so much and we miss you.”
