Is this the greatest local cricket performance ever?
A Sunshine Coast fourth grade cricketer has taken home the match ball and etched his name into local cricket folklore after dismissing an entire team in just 11.2 overs.
Caloundra bowler Scot Teichmann, who has only been playing club cricket for the past three seasons, finished with his greatest ever figures of 10-35.
The 42-year-old opened the bowling against Caboolture, skittling his rivals for 87 in the 23rd over — 226 runs shy of Sunshine Coast’s mammoth first innings total of 313.
Three of Teichmann’s wickets were caught, six bowled and one caught and bowled, with the opposition’s top scorer out for 46 from 27 balls.
It came in a weekend of incredible local cricket performances after a player on the Gold Coast took six wickets in a row with the opposition team requiring five runs to win.
Teichmann said despite being sick in the lead up to the match, he was amazed by his performance.
“I’m not the fastest guy at Caloundra, in fact I’m far from it but I just tried to put the ball on a good length and be as consistent as I can,” he said.
“I was actually quite crook all week, so when Saturday rolled around I wasn’t feeling overly great and I said to my wife before I left ‘today is going to be one of those days where I bowl like a busted or bowl out of my skin’.
“Thankfully it turned out to be the letter as I was just trying to pace myself and it didn’t really sink in for me until there was a possibility of getting that last wicket.”
The primary school teacher said his team's first innings total provided a big confidence boost.
“We had a good score which put the pressure on them and definitely worked in my favour,” he said.
“I’ve had a few five wickets hauls but never anything more than that and certainly nothing ever like this.
“My son Ollie is always telling me his best figures as a junior was 7-7 and that I’d never be able to beat him, so it was really nice to be able to rub it into him.”
Caloundra sent the Snakes into bat a second time, bowling them out for 175 to complete a massive outright victory by an innings and 51 runs.
Teichmann surprisingly went wicketless in the second innings, while teammate Marshall White finished with 6-15 off 8.3 overs.
Teichmann said he was thankful for the support from his teammates and family.
“It’s a nice personal milestone, but the best part for me was seeing how excited my teammates were,” he said.
“We went back to the club house and they shouted me a few drinks and we had a good time which was nice.
“The figures are cool but it only comes off the back of having great teammates, being part of a great club and I’m also very appreciative of my wife, who is happy for me to train twice a week and be gone for half of the day on Saturday.”
