In-form Queensland trainer Stuart Kendrick is hoping to continue his electric metropolitan run on Saturday as he unleashes a series of top local hopes.

The current 2023-24 leading provincial trainer sits ninth in the metropolitan ranks, an achievement he’s had in his sights for the past few seasons.

He’s set to feature 15 runners at Corbould Park on Saturday with high hopes for sibling duo Defiant Spirit and Defiant Boom.

“Being one of the Sunshine Coast’s major meetings for the season we’ve got a number of chances across the day,” he said.

“Defiant Spirit is in the three-year-old while his brother Defiant Boom will run in the two-year-old and they would be two of our better chances.”

In the day’s feature events, Kendrick said he will rely on the light weight and expected rain to improve his chances.

“It’s going to be tough in the major races but we’ve got good chances all day and if you can sneak a win on days like this it’s always special,” he said.

“Hopefully Tavistorm can sneak into the cup.

“He’ll be one of the roughies but we know he’ll get the trip which is a big tick as he ran solid the other day at the end of 2500m on Ipswich Cup Day.

“He’ll be a lightweight chance and where the other horses might have a touch of class on him the weather will suit so the wetter the better.”

Itza Motza and Ashfall will shape up in the Winx Guineas (1600m) while improving five-year-old gelding Tidal Creek is set to run in the Glasshouse Handicap.

“Tidal Creek had some really good form last time in and he’s just come back from a let up,” Kendrick said on Tuesday morning.

“He ran really well at Ipswich a few weeks ago and is another that loves the wet.”
