A FAMILY member of David Young and Louise Dekens was so concerned for their safety on the night they were killed, he told them to leave their home and stay with him.

Accounts of Anthony William Young's declining mental health were detailed during yesterday's inquest into his fatal shooting on August 21 in 2013.

Counsel assisting the Coroner Stephen Keim said Anthony, pictured left, had been living with David and Ms Dekens for 10 months in the lead-up to their murders.

Anthony's former partner had received a text asking "who wants to kill me?" two nights before the incident.

A step-sibling received a concerning text from Anthony about 7.30pm on the night of the murders.

He called Anthony, who answered but did not say anything before hanging up.

He then called David and told him about the text message but was assured by David everything was all right.

The step-sibling offered David and Ms Dekens accommodation with him in Brisbane that night but David declined. Phone records showed Anthony had called 000 at 9.52pm, sounding calm but talking about a sex cult in China.

It was shortly after that phone call ended that he repeatedly stabbed his brother David before stabbing Ms Dekens as she tried to flee.
