Tears were shed as a Warana woman charged with killing two young Sunshine Coast mechanics in a horrific crash at Woombye faced court for the first time.

Kelly Renee Liddicoat, 43, faces two charges of dangerously operating a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving under the influence.

Ms Liddicoat appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 24, 2022, represented by her lawyer Bradford Hill.

Mr Hill told the court they needed an adjournment to obtain a brief of evidence.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin adjourned the matter until August 19 for a committal mention.

Ms Liddicoat was accompanied by two friends who held on to her arms tightly while they took cover.

She was allegedly driving a white BMW at 3.30pm on April 21, 2022 when she struck two young men with her car.

Lleyton Bartlett, 22, of Baringa, and Aaron Pitt, 25, of Currimundi were the two mechanics who were hit while fixing a bus on Nambour Connection Rd, Woombye.

The pair were working for bus company CDC South East Queensland (formerly Buslink) at the time.

Bystanders and paramedics rushed to the scene but all help was in vain as the mechanics succumbed to their critical injuries at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

The April tragedy rocked the Sunshine Coast community, with an outpouring of love and tributes from close friends and family.

Mr Bartlett was remembered as a much-loved former Immanuel Lutheran College student and talented hockey player.

His mum Lisa Bartlett described him as a “full of life” character who’d lived life in the fast lane.

“He always put on a smile on everyone’s face,” she told the Sunshine Coast Daily.

“We just want our boy home and we know he’s not coming home.”

Mr Pitt was remembered as an award-winning apprentice who was awarded apprentice of the year just one week after joining CDC.

Childhood friend Mitchell Randell told the Sunshine Coast Daily it was a “real shock” hearing the news about his friend who he grew up with.

“He was a legend of a bloke, I grew up through my teenage years with him in parklands riding motorbikes and push bikes around,” Mr Randell said.

“He always had a smile on his face and was just a top guy.”

Mr Bartlett and Mr Pitt’s family and friends shed tears as they saw Ms Liddicoat front court for the first time.

They left court in a group and spoke outside the courthouse before driving off in their separate cars.
