Goodwill and donations are pouring in for Sunshine Coast surfer Joe Hoffman as he faces a long road to recovery from a shark bite while surfing near Crescent Head in New South Wales.
He has undergone several surgeries, with more still to come, after he was bitten on the arm by a 3m great white shark on Monday afternoon.
A GoFundMe campaign has kicked off to help support the 25 year old’s recovery.
Daniel Jamieson and Louisa Andersen started a fundraiser for their mate on Wednesday and it had already amassed more than $32,000 by Thursday morning.
“He is stable and fighting strong however requires long term treatment,” the fundraiser states.
“The journey to recovery is in its early days and any help from the community to get Joey back on his feet (hanging 10) will go a long way.”
Donations have poured in from a range of school, surfing and family friends from around the world and the Mudjimba community.
A significant donation to the GoFundMe page was also understood to have Hollywood ties, as Joe had been working for a production unit on a Netflix series being made by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone.
