JAMES Oxley may not have turned any chairs, but he walked away from The Voice with a newfound confidence.

Nerves got the better of the 17-year-old Coast singer during his blind audition, which aired on the reality singing show  tonight.

James left school to pursue a career in music, and is a regular at Eumundi's Imperial Hotel, so when none of the chairs turned for him the disappointment was all over his face.

Devastated, he told Delta Goodrem that he thought his performance was s***.

But all four coaches were quick to reassure him that one nervous audition isn't the end of the world.

"When I was 17 I didn't even play in front of 10 people yet," Joe Jonas said.

"You have to really work at it. You have something really special. You can't just throw that out the window just because of one performance you're not 100 percent proud of."

In a heartwarming moment, Delta gave James a pep talk before giving him shot a second at the song - Major Lazer's Cold Water.

The chance to improve on his first performance, with the support of the coaches and studio audience, left James with a smile on his face:

The feel-good moment turned a setback into a learning experience, and James has received heaps of support on social media tonight after posting about his performance on Instagram:

Hopefully we'll see him back on the show next year. In the meantime, check out one of his original songs:

The Voice continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
