It’s not the sun, or the moon- it’s our fault

There is overwhelming consensus within the scientific world about the cause of global warming.

Man-made warming

REGARDING Case Smit’s letter “Natural effects need counting” (Daily, August 17).

He will be pleased to know that an investigation about the reason our planet’s surface is warming up is unnecessary.

There is overwhelming consensus within the scientific world about the cause.

Surprise, surprise. It’s not cosmic rays or the moon’s influence on the tectonic plates causing more volcanic activity. I would recommend that Case visit the NASA website which clearly explains how increased greenhouse gases released by human activity is the cause.

He should try NASA’s frequently asked questions section:

Is the Sun causing global warming?

No. The Sun can influence the Earth’s climate, but it isn’t responsible for the warming trend we’ve seen over the past few decades.

What do volcanoes have to do with climate change?

Overall, volcanoes release less than 2 per cent of the equivalent amount of CO2 released by human activities. Quite small.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change website states that their objective is to provide governments at all levels with scientific information that they can use to develop climate policies. Nothing about ignoring natural causes as Case argues.

One wonders why the Sunshine Coast Daily would give letter of the week status to an opinion at odds with the established science.

Belly laughs

REGARDING Clive Newton’s letter “Print my letter” (Daily, August 17). It was very entertaining to read his complaint that he doesn’t get his letters printed.

Please keep printing his humorous dribble as often as possible because readers really need a good belly laugh to kick start their day.

Creating rapture

A COUNCIL election is coming up next year. Will our elected officials in charge do anything special to try and get re-elected or just rely on the climate deniers to bring them back?

Why not do something extraordinary? Declare a climate crisis for the Sunshine Coast Council area and stop things like wood burning fires and ovens. Stop felling trees over 30 years old to make more and more tiny blocks to mess up the suburbs.

Will you dare to do this or are you joining our Prime Minister and waiting for the Pentecostal end of times and believing the climate problems are God’s work in preparation for destroying mankind and creating the rapture?

Unfunded empathy

THE government says an increase in unemployment payments to 700,000 unemployed, quiet Australians will be “unfunded empathy”.

Will this cause a deficit in unfunded kindness, compassion, generosity and sympathy with no surpluses for years to come?
