GRANT Bishop came from Brisbane's southwest to ride for Cameron Frewer on Saturday.

The Bellbowrie resident didn't know Mr Frewer personally, but had spoken with him online over the past 10 months as Mr Frewer ramped up his safe passing campaign.

"You sort of feel like you knew him,” Mr Bishop said.

"It's pretty shocking news. I was in a meeting when I found out (Cameron had died).

"I had to go out of the room.”

Mr Bishop had known Dr Martin Pearson, a Lowood vet and associate professor who was killed while riding on Anzac Day in 2014.

"It's always hard when a cyclist gets killed,” Mr Bishop said.

"(You do ask) is it worth it sometimes.”

He said there needed to be more strenuous policing of the safe passing law, to ensure motorists didn't continue to put cyclists' lives at risk.

He was visiting his sister-in-law in Currimundi before making the trip back home and said his wife often worried about him cycling, particularly in Brisbane city.

"One trip into the city and back I can have five close passes,” Mr Bishop said.
