Woman accused of impersonating police

Nineteen witnesses allegedly saw a woman during a Maroochydore pharmacy robbery while she was dressed in a fake police uniform, a court has heard.

Elizabeth Marie Maynes allegedly entered a Denna Street pharmacy at 12.15pm on April 8 wearing an imitation police uniform and armour, armed with a replica handgun and a knife.

The woman allegedly had a conversation with staff before leaving the pharmacy with a number of controlled substances.

Police body cam footage shows Ms Maynes being arrested after being pulled from a car found nearby.

Ms Maynes faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday charged with five charges including personating a public officer and carrying an exposed weapon in a public place.

Police prosecutor Lee Allen said nine police officers and 10 civilians were listed as witnesses of the alleged incident.

The court heard the number of witnesses could be reduced.

The matter had previously been mentioned in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 22 where solicitor Ben Rynderman said Ms Maynes had been referred to a mental health liaison officer for her fitness and soundness to be assessed.

Mr Rynderman said he would be in a better position to tell the court how the matter would proceed on the next occasion in October.

Solicitor Patrick Meehan said he had recently been transferred Ms Maynes as a client and said she was still awaiting a mental health assessment.

Magistrate Rod Madsen expressed his frustration on how long the matter was taking to be resolved.

“She's got nothing else to do at the time, other than stuff people around,” he said.

“It's just ridiculous.”

He said Ms Maynes had not disclosed whether her mental health issue impacted her fitness or capacity and had failed to attend an assessment in the past.

Mr Meehan said he didn’t have legal aid funding for a hearing.

Mr Madsen said he wanted to take her pleas, but would adjourn the matter.

He listed a review mention on December 8 and listed a hearing on February 24.

Ms Maynes will need to enter her pleas and give detailed advice on her mental health on the next date.
