The director of a major Sunshine Coast engineering company facing a multimillion-dollar Australian Taxation Office debt began a new company less than a year before his engineering business entered liquidation, documents reveal.

The engineering company, Heka Diprose Pty Ltd, which traded as Heka Group, appointed liquidator Dane Hammond to the company on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents seen by this publication showed Jason Scott Diprose held the positions of director and secretary of the Heka Diprose Pty Ltd since the company began in the Sunshine Coast in 2008.

In the documents, Mr Hammond states Mr Diprose told him three companies in total, including Heka Coatings Pty Ltd and Heka Solutions Pty Ltd, would not be able to continue trading, adding “immediate closure was likely”.

The largest debt is owed by Heka Diprose to the ATO for an estimated $2.85m, according to the report published on ASIC.

The report also stated a further estimated $1m was owed to various creditors.

Mr Diprose is also the director of another company, Aussie Shade Sheds Pty Ltd, according to ASIC documents, which is located at the Heka Group address at unit 1, 49 Enterprise Street, Kunda Park.

It is understood Aussie Shade Sheds is not part of Heka Group and is not in the process of external administration.

The documents for the Aussie Shade Sheds company state the business began with Mr Diprose as the director on May 17, 2023.
