A Sunshine Coast bowhunting enthusiast has upgraded his facilities, claiming it is the longest indoor shooting range in South East Queensland.

Harrison Dennis has been running his business Far Ahead Bowhunting from Moffat Beach for the past year, and has recently installed a 23m long indoor shooting range.

Mr Dennis says his new addition is the only indoor shooting range longer than 20m in South East Queensland.

He now offers archery coaching, a bowhunting course, guided hunts and lane hire with hopes to one day offer 24/7 members access.

He also produces his own carbon fibre target and hunting arrows for his shop.

Mr Dennis first gained interest about the sport six years ago to source his own quality meat for his family.

He initially started the business from a shed and he claims bowhunting came with benefits including getting out in nature, calming the mind and bringing yourself to a peaceful state.

He also pointed to the health benefits of sourcing your own, cleaner protein from free range animals such as deer which is less inflammatory and offers a better omega-6 to omega-3 ratio in the meat.

His course outlines what to look out for when hunting for your own protein, particularly how to check if the animal is healthy and safe to consume.

Mr Dennis said a long indoor range was something he wished he had access to during the start of his bowhunting journey.

“There is nothing else really like it around,” he said.

The passion for bowhunting as a recreational sport has recently grown, particularly with influence from figures such as Joe Rogan and Cameron Hanes, Mr Dennis said.

“This is something I want to give back to Sunshine Coast community for all who want to learn,” he said.

Many patrons had reached out and were waiting for the new shooting range.

The range offers a space for patrons to practice shooting safely, with many not having space to shoot at home at a distance further than five metres.

Unlike obtaining a firearm, bowhunting does not require any licence in Queensland.

“I want it to be done safely and for the right reasons,” Mr Dennis said.

The bowhunting enthusiast said he can’t wait to see where the new range takes itself and is excited to meet new people and share the passion.

His facility welcomes people of all ages..
