A new 1.5km road connecting one of the Sunshine Coast’s biggest housing estates with the Bruce Hwy has opened.
Symphony Way, which connects Palmview’s Harmony Estate with the Bruce Hwy, officially opened to the public at 1pm on Thursday, December 14.
It is the second connection road into the estate and without traffic is less than a two minute drive to Pignata Rd, next to the Bruce Hwy.
The opening of the new road addresses long-held concerns from residents about only having one road in and out of the estate, particularly during floods and bushfires.
AVID general manager Queensland Anthony Demiris said he was overjoyed at the opening of the project.
“We’re proud to have worked with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and our fellow Palmview landowners to deliver this critical connection that will offer continuity to the existing road network and enhance the community of today but also accommodate a rapidly growing region,” he said.
Mr Demiris said the new road would significantly improve connectivity and traffic flow while also saving time getting onto the Bruce Hwy.
“We expect the new connection will be a welcome addition to the Palmview community as we draw closer to Christmas and with school holidays having already started here on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
Mother Lauren McCarthy, who has lived in Harmony since 2019, said she imagines the new road will save her “hours a week”.
As a mum and real estate agent, I practically live in my car – whether I’m driving between listings or
heading to school pick-up or drop-off,” she said.
Symphony Way is the second of four planned connection roads into the estate with a two-lane Southern Road Link expected to be complete by 2026-27 and a connection to Springhill Drive in Sippy Downs expected to be complete in 2028-29.
Harmony Estate opened in 2017 and is about 50 per cent finished, will be home to an estimated 13,000 residents with 4800 homes once complete.
