An armed bandit has run a knife down the throat of a Gympie supermarket attendant in a terrifying hold-up today.
Police said at 1.53am a man entered the 24-hour AUR Express supermarket, and held a knife to the attendant's throat demanding money.
The attendant handed over a sum of cash in a plastic bag while the man has taken cigarettes from behind the counter.
He has then run the knife down the attendants throat causing a superficial cut before leaving the store on foot with the cash and cigarettes.
The attendant was able to follow the man to a nearby takeaway shop where the man has dropped the bag of cash and cigarettes and ran down the embankment.
It is believed he got into a white sedan, possibly a late 90s model Ford Falcon.
He is described as 175cm tall, short black hair, fair complexion. He was wearing a white baseball cap, red bandana, short sleeved North Queensland Cowboys polo shirt, pants and joggers.
