Groovin the Moo has been cancelled because of low ticket sales, despite the festival being set to hit the Sunshine Coast in May with a star-studded line-up featuring some old favourites and new artists.

An email was sent out at 2.09pm today, February 14, to all ticket holders.

“We are extremely disappointed to announce that the Groovin the Moo 2024 tour has been forced to cancel,” it said.

“Ticket sales have not been sufficient to deliver a regional festival of this kind.

“All tickets will be refunded automatically.”

Triple J also posted the news to its Instagram page.

Festival goers took to the comment section to share their outrage.

“Tickets just went on sale WTF,” someone said.

“They’ve only been on sale for one week. Give people a chance to purchase,” another added.

“Literally crying,” one person said.

Others blamed the line-up.

“Anyone surprised after the line-up they produced this year?”

“Get better line-ups,” another said.

“I’d cancel too after putting a line-up like that out,” someone said.

The first Groovin the Moo festival held on the Sunshine Coast last year was deemed a success by emergency service workers despite major transport headaches for punters.

The major regional festival was held at the Kawana Sports Western Precinct on Sunday, Sunday, April 30 last year and attracted a crowd of about 25,000 people.

This year the line-up had included The Beaches, Claire Rosinkranz, DMA’S, Jessie Reyez, The Kooks, Meduza, The Rions, Stephen Sanchez and more.

The popular music festival was set to be held at the Sunshine Coast Stadium this year after 2023’s event significantly damaged the fields of a local football club and left them without a home for more than two months.

The festival’s media team has confirmed the cancellation.
