A unit block at Greenslopes has been totally destroyed by a fire that last night.

Around 5.30pm emergency services were alerted to the fire on Nicholson Street.

They arrived to find the building almost fully engulfed in fire. All the occupants escaped the blaze without injury. The cause of the fire is not known at this time. Forensic investigations will commence this morning.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a possible arson attack on a business at Parramatta Park in Cairns.

Around 4.50pm yesterday, emergency services were called to the Erskines Tackle World on Mulgrave Road.

It appears the contents of an industrial bin in an alleyway were set alight. The fire then spread to the business via an air conditioning system. No one was injured.

Significant damage has been caused to the ceiling and stock in the store. Forensic examinations will begin this morning.
