Golf club president suspended after "chest-butt"

BARELY a month after Horton Park golfers packed their clubs and moved to Bli Bli, the president has been suspended and two others players disciplined.

Geoff Davies, who has been president at Horton Park for six years and then Maroochy River Golf Club, was given a three month ban from the new course.

He will only have to serve one month of the ban, with the remainder "suspended" for 12 months.

Sources said Mr Davies had been involved in a small, early morning, "altercation" with another player.

It's understood he "chest-butted" the other player after throwing his ball.

The player complained and the board was required to take action.

It is unclear what the other players were charged with, but it is understood their sentence was lighter.

It's been "years" since the board held a disciplinary hearing.

Acting president Peter Carey confirmed three complaints were heard by the board and "three disciplinary actions taken".

"We have rules, like any constitution, which we are bound to follow," Mr Carey said.

"We took appropriate action and the club has to move on."

Another source said he wasn't aware of any other player who received a suspension over a "chest-butt" in the club's 65 year history.

"He received the harsher penalty because he is the president," the source said.

Mr Davies declined to comment but said he accepted the board's decision.

"I am sincerely sorry for my actions," he said.
