George Carpenter aiming for success with Sunshine Coast racing stable

A rising horse racing enthusiast has spent years learning the in and outs of the industry as he now launches and aims for success with his own Sunshine Coast stable.

Rising racing trainer George Carpenter is hoping to kick start his career after launching his new Queensland stable on the Sunshine Coast.

The 25-year-old has surrounded himself with horses for as long as he can remember and after plotting away for other leading trainers and through the work of his pulse therapy business, Carpenter took out his training license in February 2024.

The former Chancellor State College student said he was thankful for the advice and teaching from top Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick as well as leading Brisbane trainers Matt Hoysted and Steven O’Dea.

“I’ve floated around the industry for a while but launching my own stable is always something I’ve wanted to do and it really ramped up about four or five years ago,” he said.

“It was just a matter of taking the right steps in learning as much as I could and giving myself a good starting point before going out on my own.”

Carpenter currently has three tried horses in his stable and saddled up his first runner in Spirit Of Heath in April.

“Having my first runner was really exciting,” he said.

“I was very nervous but super proud of his run and then he backed it up with a good placing at Corbould Park.

“To get the first run out of the way was kind of the first tick for us and now the plan is to obviously get that first winner which hopefully is not too far around the corner.

“You need some luck and patience in this game which I’m well aware of but it’s definitely on my mind every day so hopefully the monkey is off my back soon enough.”

Carpenter said although it was still early days he was enjoying the challenges of operating his own stable.

“I enjoy being very hands on which I need to be in our small stable but riding track work and doing all the rest of it is pretty beneficial to myself I think,” he said.

“To be able to train the horses and implement my own ideas is pretty special and it’s even better when they go to plan or the horses are going well.

“The plan is to just slowly grow our stable with more horses and owners but that comes through good results and consistency.”
