Four Coast tradies face 120 charges over $200k ATM thefts

A group of tradies accused of stealing $200,000 during a string of ATM thefts have been granted more freedoms by the court, including having curfews scrapped.

A GROUP of tradies accused of stealing $200,000 during a string of ATM thefts have been granted more freedoms by the court, including having their curfews scrapped.

Christopher John Varley, Jason Mark Hatch, Lucas Michael Wagner and Krystle Skye O'Reilly are facing 120 charges between them stemming from 11 alleged incidents where they're accused of attempting to steal and stealing ATMs.

It's alleged as well as stealing money, they also caused $35,000 worth of damage to various businesses spanning Noosaville to Caboolture.

Mr Varley, Mr Hatch and Mr Wagner had their bail conditions altered in Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday to remove their curfews.

They will also only be required to report to police two days a week.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said the changes were to reduce "disruption" in their households and allow them to work more as tradespeople freely.

Ms O'Reilly's bail was not altered.

The group will appear in court again on December 14.

Police will allege they gained entry to businesses predominately via the roof and would cut alarms and wires to avoid detection.

It's further alleged they would surveil premises before breaking in and using grinding tools to access ATMs.

On the night Mr Varley, Mr Hatch and Mr Wagner were arrested, they allegedly broke into the Waterfront Hotel and were planning to return to remove cash from an ATM and safe.

They were later arrested at the Big Pineapple.

The court heard police had evidence from a witness who was involved in the alleged crimes, footprints and phone messages related to alleged crimes.

The witness will be sentenced at a later date and has been offered a reduced sentence for his cooperation.

In a previous mention of the case, police prosecutions told the court messages between Ms O'Reilly and Mr Varley allegedly relate to her lending him her car with knowledge of plans of the alleged crimes.
