In a world where men yearn for a listening ear, barbershops have become space for something much “deeper than the cut”.

Ryan Tawhiti-Watson, the man behind Forever Barbers, lives this motto.

Originally from New Zealand, Mr Tawhiti-Watson began the business seven years ago as he sought a change from the mining and construction industries.

“I wanted to be creative with my hands and have a job where I could be a part of my kids growing up and not fly-in fly-out,” Mr Tawhiti-Watson said.

Forever Barbers has now been voted as the best in their field on the Sunshine Coast.

“We have created a welcoming community where men from all different walks of life can come in and be vulnerable,” Mr Tawhiti-Watson said.

“You can come in and have a decent yarn with decent blokes … we’re all very similar, we all go through the same things in life, we just go through them at different times.

“We can help foster those conversations and lead the way. Men appreciate having someone to talk to.”

The business leads by example, having given cuts to foster children and homeless people in recent years.

“Every year I make sure we go out in the community in a different way. We always want to give back and pay it forward. Without community we are nothing.”

Mr Tawhiti-Watson said it was “humbling” his clients had recognised Forever Barbers as the best on the coast.

The team currently consists of four barbers but Mr Tawhiti-Watson said he was looking to hire a fifth.
