Family of Byron Haddow contacted by witness after Bali CCTV aired
One of three Australians in a Bali villa when a Noosa FIFO worker died has contacted his grieving parents after confronting CCTV footage aired on national television.
One of three Australians in a Bali villa with Noosa FIFO worker Byron Haddow when he died has contacted his grieving parents following the shocking revelations of the CCTV footage aired on national television.
FIFO worker Byron Haddow, 23, tragically died just a few days into what was meant to be a 12-day holiday in Bali.
In a Channel 9 60 Minutes episode that aired on Sunday, November 30, journalist Adam Hegarty showed the CCTV footage of the last moments of Byron’s life along with the reactions of the three Australians with him in the villa when they realised he was dead.
Byron’s mother, Chantal Haddow, said a member of the trio reached out to them just this morning following the episode being aired.
“One [person] reached out to me just this morning, and they sent a message and they are going to give me a call later this week,” Ms Haddow said.
“So yeah, that’s a positive.”
Ms Haddow said watching the 60 Minutes story was confronting.
“Obviously, we had seen the footage prior to the show, but everyone else watching it, like our kids they saw it for the first time last night, so it was quite confronting and traumatising for them,” she said.
Byron’s stepfather Robbie Haddow said there were lot of other “unexplained and unanswered questions”.
“On the CCTV video that was shown last night in 60 Minutes, I think it was three minutes of it, I’ve actually watched 48 hours of it,” Robbie said.
“Whether there’s a lot more to come out of it or there’s a lot of other unexplained and unanswered questions.”
Robbie said he felt like the stories were conflicting after seeing the CCTV footage.
“It conflicts on what we’ve been told, originally, from one [of the people there],” he said.
Ms Haddow said they would like to know what the trio told the police when they returned back to Australia.
“Do they match what they told us or do they match the CCTV footage,” Ms Haddow said.
“Who knows?”
Ms Haddow said they did not have any new updates on the investigation.
“We’ve had no updates, no contact from the Australian Federal Police or the Queensland Coroner regarding the investigation back here in Australia,” Ms Haddow said.
“So, we sort of don’t have any updates on the progress of that.”
