Facebook campaign helps find remnants of stolen ute

THE sight of his prized four-wheel-drive smouldering by the side of a forestry track made Nathan Nicholson want to cry.
It brought to an end a search for the 2009 Toyota LandCruiser V8 ute that was stolen from a locked work site in Warana on Wednesday last week.
It was through social media, not emergency services, that the 23-year-old came across his vehicle.
Mr Nicholson paid about $55,000 for the car three years ago and had made numerous modifications for specialised four-wheel-driving.
He had been away driving trucks when it was stolen, returning on Thursday to discover it was gone.
A Facebook campaign, driven by his girlfriend Alex Poole, was started to try to get the vehicle back.
News of the theft was shared across community pages and specialist four-wheel-drive pages to get the word out quickly.
"It was on (nearly) every car site in Queensland," Mr Nicholson said.
But sadly the car was set alight and left to burn near Johnston Rd at Coochin Ck.
It was still smouldering when Mr Nicholson went to see it on Saturday morning.
He found out about the discovery after someone who had seen earlier posts got in contact.
"It was Facebook that found it."
He was saddened by the sight but has since been buoyed by online support.
Hundreds of people have commented and shared the news.

He was grateful for the support and the efforts of those who tried to help him retrieve the vehicle.
"I want to say a big thank you."
