The 2023/24 Sunshine Coast cricket season is coming to a close with the last grand final matches being played in the coming days.

Since September we’ve collated the date from every single junior and senior player to find out who performed admirably in the bowling and batting ranks.

A dry Saturday for the final round of SCCA Division 1 fixtures confirmed the semifinal quartet to produce the Grand Finalists, a foursome that has stepped ahead of the pack for most of the season.

Tewantin-Noosa, Caboolture and Maroochydore are familiar contestants of late, and they are joined for the first time by Coolum, with the Sharks completing their trio of debuts in the playoffs for T20, One Day and 2Day formats.

The last day of fixture play gave Coolum momentum for a prolonged season as the Sharks gained their first 2-day win over Caboolture, maintaining the first day pressure of 5/51 on the Snakes chasing the Sharks’ 170. Leading wicket-taker Corey Perren strengthened his status with 5/55 to limit the home side to 147, making Coolum’s place official.

Tewantin batted on to 316 from 9/276 and Glasshouse closed the season all out 238 at Read Park, lowest on the ladder, but cricketing sons Malakai Pearce and Riley Schultz, with 74 and 54 not out respectively, showed the future may be bright.

Maroochydore turned the match against Caloundra around, defying lost time and expectations to quickly limit the home side’s 1/80 to 174 in 37 more overs, then running down the target at 2/175. The Swans batting has at times been flattered by their strength with the ball, but now a well-rounded unit enters the finals.

Nambour Showgrounds provided the batsman’s dream and bowler’s nightmare as Steve Ledger and Nick Wallace hit up 1/275 with centuries each in 55 overs, then gave Gympie 48 overs to match it, a challenge accepted. Dan Shepperson set the board moving with 68, Nathan Roderick added 63, then an unbeaten 75 from 54 balls pushed the chase to 9/265 when time ran out. Points were shared as the Gold and Cutters reviewed their seasons over a drink.

On Saturday Tewantin hosts Coolum in the first semifinal, and will be warily confident against a side that has been travelling in unfamiliar territory for most of the season, gathering points and experience along the way. The squad has matured since its entrance five years ago and has legitimate claims on its final berth, with most of the regulars now clocking up 50+ appearances.

History favours the depth and experience of Tewantin, but the Sharks realise that they are making history, and building their own story.

Caboolture and Maroochydore also have plenty of history between them, with long periods of domination for both sides as they claimed all but five premierships this century. The Swans have depth in all areas, but little separates the squads in runs and wickets over the season.

Caboolture’s batting can be formidable if the strength of Glen Batticciotto and Cameron Trask takes the middle order with them, yet the Swans always manage to stay competitive. At Grant Road, runs can accumulate easily in fine weather, so a war of attrition could result if there is no rain. But that would be unusual for cricket finals on the Sunshine Coast.

See below for the full player rankings.

Note: All statistics are from regular season matches only and each player’s data is from a single grade.

February 10

No top performances list this round after bad weather put an end to a host of junior and senior matches.

February 3

Seniors

Honourable mentions to Steven Ledger (Nambour, 1st), Ben Guillemet (Glasshouse, 5th), Pierre Kahts (Coolum, 5th), Eddie Beard (Caloundra, 3rd), Corey Perren (Coolum, 1st) and Brad Teske (Caboolture, 1st).

10. Jack Kelly (Maroochydore, 4th)

Kelly was in at the crease from the get-go producing one of the grittiest centuries the Sunshine Coast competition has had this season.

The opener hit 15 boundaries during his time at the crease, finishing 101 not out from a whopping 273 deliveries.

9. Joel Owen (Glasshouse, 1st)

The Glasshouse captain has been a shining light for his side this season and has taken the enhanced leadership role with both hands.

The talented spin bowler finished with top figures of 6-49 from 29 overs.

8. Jarrod Officer (Tewantin-Noosa, 1st)

It was a smidgen further down the order for Officer in his side’s two day match against Nambour but that didn’t phase him with the standout Tewantin-Noosa stalwart smashing 110 runs from 142 balls.

He also had 14 fours and two sixes in his side’s massive 9-302 first innings score.

7. Oscar Cawse (Maroochydore, 4th)

Cawse has been a revelation in the junior competition this season and he’s know taking his talents to the senior grades with a lovely six wicket haul over the weekend.

The talented left arm off-spinner recorded 6-44 from his 30 overs against Caloundra and also has 4-29 from 11 in the under-17s division.

6. Ryan Lammin (Nambour, 3rd)

Lammin shares a similar story to Holland in this week’s rankings due to the correct figures unavailable in PlayHQ.

The opener smashed a nice 128 runs.

5. Jackson White (Gympie, 1st)

The Gold vice-captain came out firing with the ball in the opening session picking up six wickets from 48 runs from his 18.4 overs.

He then added to his performance batting at number five and falling two runs short of a half century as he finished with 48 from 163 with the bat.

4. Tony Douglass (Yandina, 4th)

The Yandina captain was a sole standout performer with the ball taking 6-41 from 13.3 overs.

3. Syed Qasim Mehdi Bokhari (USC, 3rd)

It was a day to remember for Sayed who snagged cracking figures of 6-43 from his 11 overs in the first innings.

2. Jeremy Holland (Tewantin-Noosa, 4th)

Now I don’t know how many balls Holland faced over the weekend but I’m guessing it wasn’t many as the top order batsman has recorded a total of 317 runs from just 202 balls in two-day matches this season.

Against Yandina Holland smacked 139 but it unfortunately wasn’t enough as his side fell seven runs short.

1. Ben Laughlin (Tewantin-Noosa, 1st)

It was Officer’s effort with the bat and Laughlin’s performance with the ball that helped Tewantin-Noosa score a much needed victory against Nambour in round 19.

Despite Steven Ledger’s 105 run performance Laughlin finished with a cracking six wicket haul.

He had 6-23 from 14.5 overs.

After two ducks from his two openers, Pitcher did all he could to bring the game back into the balance hitting 55 from 53.

Ultimately his efforts weren’t enough as his side finished 10 runs short of Cabooltures 159 total.

9. Cohen Wiedman (Caloundra, U15B)

It was always going to be tough going for the Caloundra bowling attack but Weidman couldn’t be faulted for his efforts as he finished with key figures of 4-19 from his seven overs.

8. Nate Jenkins (Coolum, U15B)

Jenkins must’ve enjoyed his time at the crease, producing a solid run rate of 140.54 as he hit a lovely half century from 37 deliveries.

His eight fours and one six helped his side set a huge target that was eventually enough for them to get the win.

7. Harvey Mitchell (Coolum Tiger Sharks, U15B)

After showing out with the bat Mitchell finished with a handy total of 60 runs (not out) from 70 balls.

He hit nine fours during his time at the crease, helping his side to a massive first session score of 10-316.

6. Cooper Marshall (Caboolture, U17)

With a restricted total, Marshall was a key performer for the Snakes bowling attack taking 4-24 from his 10 overs and helping secure his side a major victory against Nambour.

5. Michael Glynn (Caboolture, U15B)

Seven overs is all it took for Glynn to prove his worth against Landsborough with the youngster taking four wickets for just nine runs.

He also had figures of 2-8 from six overs in the first innings.

4. Archie Angus (USC, U17)

Batting at number five in the order Angus came to the crease with his side 3-19 before hitting 69 from 51 and leaving at 7-126.

Angus hit 10 fours and two sixes during his innings.

3. Malakai Pearce (Glasshouse, U17)

Pearce showed no mercy with the bat as his side soared passed the required first innings total of 10-116 set by Coolum.

The Glasshouse captain finished with 83 from 75 and helped his side set a total score of 7-275.

2. Baiden Aspinall (USC, U15B)

Batting first Aspinall contributed to almost half of his side’s total score as he recorded 82 from 67 balls.

His partnership with opener Jonah Stanieg (who had 56 from 77) looked promising but with limited support around them the visitors only set a score of 8-190.

1. Finnlay Dale-Westbrook (Coolum Mako Sharks, U13B)

The rising Coolum star hit 11 from 19 with the bat in the opening term before taking a cracking five wicket haul against Maroochydore.

Dale-Westbrook had 5-1 from his four overs.

January 27

Seniors

No Senior standout performances this week after the rain abandoned the majority of matches and the others were the first day of the two-day fixtures.

Juniors

5. Lawson Pohle (Flinders, U13A)

The Flinders vice-captain was strong again over the weekend, coming in at number three and smashing 55 from 56 deliveries.

Pohle was driving the ball low and hard as he recorded nine fours before being dismissed in the 28th over.

4. William Barry (Maroochydore Red, U13A)

Maroochydore were sent in to bat first which must’ve been music to Barry’s ears as he started hot and never looked like slowing down.

The youngster hit a lovely half century from 37 balls (three fours and three sixes) before being dismissed.

3. Mitchell Hanlon (Coolum Mako Sharks, U13B)

It was a friendly rivalry on Saturday morning with both Coolum U13B sides going toe-to-toe.

There were some solid batting performances from players on both sides but Hanlon impressed the most with a calm 59 from 42 balls.

The top order batsman recorded 12 fours during his time at the crease.

2. Caleb Davis (Flinders U13A)

Davis opened the batting and got off to a nice start hitting three fours and notching up 43 runs from 52 balls before retiring.

His side set a steady score of 8-165 before Davis was in the game again, taking three wickets and leaking just two runs from his 2.3 overs.

1. Ben Pearce (Yandina, U13A)

The Yandina batting attack never let their opposition get the better of them, opting to bat first on their home deck and smashing a huge score of 3-238.

Yandina had 10 batsmen spend time at the crease with six of them retiring not out at different stages of the match.

Pearce opened the batting and crunched a quick half century from just 25 balls.

His nine fours and one six added to his side’s excellent batting display.

Pearce also snagged a wicket and finished with bowling figures of 1-9 from his three overs.

Honrouble mentions to Marcel Patullo (Caloundra, U13B), Angus Halloran (USC, U13B) and Cody Jackson (Landsborough, U13B).

January 20

Seniors

5. Harry Sippel (Gympie, 1st)

It was a massive win for Gympie over Caboolture on Saturday, posting 9-208 and holding the Snakes to 199.

The Gold’s score was thanks to a standout effort from Harry Sippel’s 76 from 79.

4. Kat Anderson (Cooroy-Eumundi, Tier 1)

Batting first, Anderson scored 29* from 38 batting in the middle order before picking up the ball and adding to her standout performances this season.

The dual sports star finished with 3-5 from her four overs.

3. Ben Hughes (Cooroy-Eumundi, 4th)

After falling three runs short of a half century last round, Hughes starred with the ball over the weekend, finishing with 4-11 from his eight overs.

2. Ravi Sharma (Glasshouse, 3rd)

The Glasshouse captain stood tall and steered the ship for his side to get the victory on Saturday.

Sharma hit 80* from 109 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes.

1. Matthew Eade (Glasshouse, 3rd)

A cracking six wicket haul is why Eade is the top Sunshine Coast senior performer this week.

The Glasshouse star finished with figures of 6-18 from his six overs.

Juniors

5. Curtis Henderson (Yandina, U15A)

Batting at number 10 in the order, Henderson got his side back on track hitting an unbeaten 40* from 29 deliveries.

4. Jensen Williamson (Caloundra, U13A)

He was also his side’s top scorer with the bat, smacking 28* from 46 balls.

3. Brodie Thompson (Maroochydore, U13B North)

The Maroochydore Green captain was in top form last round, electing to bowl first where he collected three wickets from his two overs.

Hungerford simply could not be stopped with the ball in hand last round, finishing with standout figures of 4-2 from his four overs.

1. Joe Murray (Cooroy-Eumundi, U17)
