Emergency services rush to rescue hiker on Mt Beerwah

A 27-year-old man on a first date with a woman lost his footing and fell 30m down a Sunshine Coast mountain in a busy day for emergency services.

Emergency crews rushed to rescue a hiker who fell down a Sunshine Coast mountain early Saturday morning.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the man fell 30m down Mt Beerwah at the Glass House Mountains.

The 27-year-old had set off on the hike with a woman for a first-date when he lost his footing and fell, suffering serious head and pelvic injuries.

A group of army reserves on a training walk reportedly witnessed the fall and scrambled to the base to help, giving first aid and guiding paramedics to the scene.

His date also stepped in to assist first responders.

The man was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Not long after the fall, paramedics received a report of a motorcyclist who hit a tree in nearby forestry at Beerburrum.

The spokeswoman said the man in his 50s reported a shoulder injury but emergency crews were forced to navigate the shrubbery to reach the patient.

He was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition with neck and shoulder injuries.

In a separate crash at Dulong, a motorcyclist suffered shoulder injury after their bike crashed on Dulong Rd, about 11.20am.

The motorcyclist is yet to be taken to hospital, the spokeswoman said.
