A three-vehicle crash on the Sunshine Motorway on-ramp at Coolum Beach has led to heavy traffic delays this afternoon.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman confirmed paramedics received the call about 3.20pm, reporting a collision involving a truck and two other vehicles, one of which had overturned on its roof.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics had looked over three people.

“We’ve got a male in his 30s with a shoulder injury, a male in his 40s with some chest pain, and a male in his 70s with neck pain,” she said.

A fourth person was being looked over by paramedics at the crash.

Two of those injured had been transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said traffic was heavily backed up in the area due to the incident.

Emergency services remain at the scene, and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

It was the second crash causing major delays on a Sunshine Coast road today, after a truck crash on the Bruce Hwy near exit 208 on the Sunshine Coast caused significant disruption for northbound traffic this morning.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said fire crews arrived at the scene about 7.45am after receiving a call about the incident.

“There was a truck crash on the Bruce Hwy, northbound just near the Bruce Hwy on-ramp,” she said.

“It’s come off the road, it’s blocking the single northbound lane.

The spokeswoman confirmed the truck was transporting batteries, some of which had broken and spilt onto the road.

Scientific officers looked over the scene before handing it to police.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers were assisting Main Roads with the clean-up, and the closed left lane was reopened shortly after 9.30am.

There were reports of traffic backed up as far as the Big Pineapple turn off.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the driver had self-extracted from the vehicle and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Woman fleeing second storey unit blaze injured in fall

An elderly woman has been rushed to hospital with a head and arm injury after falling while trying to escape a raging unit fire on the Sunshine Coast – as others were injured in unrelated crashes and fires overnight.

Emergency services responded to a unit fire on Parklands Boulevard, at Little Mountain, at 7pm Tuesday night.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said they had five crews on scene for the fire on the second storey of a three storey building.

“The fire was out by 7.30pm,” he said.

Paramedics were also on scene. Multiple people were evacuated on scene, with two women rushed to hospital.

A woman in her 70s was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after suffering an arm and head injury from falling during the evacuation.

Another woman in her 20s was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for smoke inhalation, also in a stable condition. Paramedics were cleared from scene at 10.21pm.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers declared a crime scene last night and investigations were ongoing.

Emergency services also responded to a two car crash on the Bruce Highway at Coochin Creek Wednesday morning.

Paramedics rushed a woman in a stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with shoulder injuries after being entrapped in her vehicle following the 4.56am crash.

A QFD spokesman said two crews were on scene after the two cars collided and rolled.

He said their crews worked to free the trapped woman.

The Queensland Fire Department also sent to two crews to the scene of a car fire at Kawana on Tuesday evening.

A QFD spokesman said the car was well involved on Larcombe Street at 8pm.
