The department said there were no locally acquired cases at the hospital or in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service region.
The eight active cases mean the region has to date had 109 cases in total with 103 fully recovered. There has been one death.
The region had five active cases on March 14 after two people were flown in from the state's far north for treatment.
The department did not specify when asked whether or not the eight active cases included some of the original five that were active on March 14.
The department did not say when the new cases were detected or when they were taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Statewide, Queensland Health to date has had 1466 cases of COVID-19 of which 78 are active.
It comes after Greater Brisbane was declared a COVID-19 hotspot and went into lockdown with authorities trying to minimise the spread of two clusters of the virus.
