A DINGO care centre could be opened on Fraser Island thanks to the hard work of the Save Fraser Island Dingoes organisation.
Designs have been drawn up and the group is seeking volunteers for the centre.
SFID secretary Karin Kilpatrick said the group had met Environment Minister Andrew Powell about the possibility of the centre, modelled on a similar resource in the Atherton Tablelands.
Ms Kilpatrick said vets and other environmental groups such as Animal Australia had thrown their support behind the plan.
She estimated it would cost up to $100,000 to build the centre, which would be paid for by fundraising.
The group also would look to raise money for a hospital vehicle with the necessary veterinary equipment.
Mrs Kilpatrick said the centre also would care for other wildlife.
