A first look at the development application for what is set to be a massive city centre on the Sunshine Coast has been revealed ahead of construction in the new masterplanned community.
The development application is for the Aura town centre, part of the much larger Aura city centre precinct.
It is set to be the commercial, hospitality, and retail heart of the Aura community.
Spanning 16,145sq m, stage one will include a mix of supermarkets, specialty retail, dining, entertainment and healthcare services.
It will comprise 14,800sq m of retail floor space and 1345sq m of commercial floor space.
As the first step in the process, the plan of development approval locked in the key access points, intended scale and uses for the future retail town centre.
Stockland has worked with stakeholders to finetune plans and the developer has completed planning and concept design work on stage one of the retail town centre.
Site preparation works are underway including earthworks for basement construction and to level the site to ensure it is ready for infrastructure development.
Civil works are also underway.
In December 2024, Stockland lodged a development application with Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) seeking approval to build this first stage of development.
Next, EDQ will assess the application throughout 2025.
This latest move follows the state government approval last year of more than 900 new homes for the $270m precinct of Stockland Aura’s community at Gagalba.
A commercial business precinct featuring a “village heart” was also proposed in October last year for a vacant block within the Aura Business Park at Caloundra South.
A Stockland spokeswoman said the developer had started the “exciting next steps” to bring the Aura retail town centre to the Aura community.
“We understand the importance of the town centre to our residents, which will provide a high-quality retail, dining and entertainment precinct in the heart of Aura,” she said.
“Delivery of stage one of the Aura retail town centre is dependent on approval timelines and we’ll keep the community updated as this progresses.”
