The Sunshine Coast developer behind a popular childcare centre in Mooloolaba has revealed the proposed location for another multi-storey complex, equipped with food gardens and yoga studios.
Plans for the centre were submitted by Mariara Property Group Pty Ltd to the Sunshine Coast Council last week regarding the property at 68 to 78 Howard St, Nambour.
According to the development application, the existing commercial buildings on the Nambour site would be demolished to make way for a five-storey childcare centre, if the proposal is approved by council.
The complex would create approximately 150 childcare places and employ 23 staff members.
The town planning report stated the “highly innovative” centre would span across five floors and include two underground levels for parking, operating from 6am to 6pm each weekday.
“The multi-storey child care centre concept is highly innovative and offers children from an early age with an alternative child care experience that, aside from the normal child care and early educational activities, includes a strong emphasis on sustainability, independence and healthy living,” the report stated.
Approximately 19 per cent of the site is proposed to be landscaped with a majority of the centre’s outdoor space to be contained to various balconies where there will be multiple “food gardens”.
“Growing and cooking food and vegetables in the food garden on the upper level, where children will learn in a fun and hands on way about sustainable living. The food garden will provide varying age-appropriate activities and involvement for the children,” the report stated.
The proposed layout shows the centre would also feature a cooking school, as well as yoga and music studios.
The application was submitted by the same developer behind the Evolution Early Learning centre in Mooloolaba, which opened in 2018.
