Council inundated with submissions on breeding facility

Less than one per cent of the submissions made in response to a dog breeding and boarding facility have been published online after the council was inundated with emails and letters.

Less than one per cent of the submissions made in response to a dog breeding and boarding facility have been published online after the council was inundated with emails and letters.

Sunshine Coast Council has to date published 221 properly made submissions in response to Diamond Valley Kennel’s application for a boarding and breeding facility at Steve Irwin Way.

The facility is part of an expansion and relocation of the Sunshine Coast cavoodle dog breeding facility.

The proposal is to build a 100-boarding and 40-breeding kennel facility at Landsborough.

A spokesman from Oscar’s Law said it’s understood more than 400,000 submissions were received by the Sunshine Coast Council.

Oscar’s Law, which protests against puppy farms, said it was the highest number of submissions ever received by the council for a development application.

From Oscar’s Law campaign more than 150,000 emails were sent to council to object to the proposal.

Animal rights group PETA also received 23,000 signatures on its petition against the project.

In comparison, Sekisui House’s controversial Yaroomba Beach development received 12,708 submissions. Of those 9288 were against it.

“Before this DA the highest number of objections made against an application was for the Sekisui proposal,” the Oscar’s Law spokesman said.

“Our target was 10,000 so to get over 150,000 was an amazing result.”

More than a dozen of the submissions already published on council’s website were in support of the dog breeding facility proposal.

Some said it would provide much-needed jobs.

A council spokesman would not confirm how many submissions were received.

They said once properly made submissions were processed they could be viewed on council’s website.

“Depending on the volume of submissions, it may take longer than usual to process and upload properly made submissions,” they said.
